Michael Stanley Regua, Sr. passed away on September 8, 2021, at the age 70. He was born on September 1, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Philip and Irma Regua. Loving husband of Maria Regua whom he shared a life of 30 years with. A devoted father to Michael Stanley Regua, Jr., Jeffrey Mitchell Regua, Sr (Charlene) and Jennifer Regua Alfonso (Harry) whom he shared with Barbara Regua. Proud grandfather of Michelle, Marissa, Jeffrey Jr, Mia and Philip and great-grandfather of Thomas V and Kalani. Brother of Felicia Colna (John), Darell Sr. and the late Eddie Bazile. He was also survived by many nieces, nephews cousins, as well as many dedicated in-laws who gave support throughout his life.
Michael was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and a culinary artist. He proudly served as the Executive Chef at the world-famous Antoine's Restaurant located in the historic New Orleans French Quarter for 47 years. During his culinary career, he was honored to prepare his famous dishes for numerous celebrities, U.S. Presidents, foreign dignitaries and, his greatest honor, the Pope. He was featured on several television shows on the Travel Channel and shared his talent and recipes with his beloved hometown by doing cooking segments on several local news channels. He partnered with Delmonico’s in New York City, using his culinary skills for the James Beard Foundation where he received the coveted James Beard Culinary Award. Michael also was blessed to grace the cover of numerous culinary magazines. He may have been demanding in the kitchen, but he had the love and respect of all of his fellow employees and co-workers. Michael will always be remembered as a great mentor to all that were blessed to work with him.
Antoine’s gave Michael some of the most amazing opportunities but the best of all was meeting his wife Maria when he interviewed her for a position at the restaurant. He would have even been able to tell you what she was wearing the first time he saw her. He was a devoted Saints fan and loved to fish, play poker and golf but most of all, he loved his family and his dog “Blue”. There was nothing he enjoyed more than listening to music with family and friends, watching John Wayne movies and the Food Network. He enjoyed family vacations to the beach where he listed to the ocean from his balcony. Michael was the most humble man who will always be remembered for his humor, smile, kindness, giving and forgiving nature who had a wonderful personality that drew people to him.
