If you've ever called Susie’s phone, there’s a strong chance you got this voicemail message from her instead of her picking up the phone. That’s because she was probably cooking, napping, or spending time with her grandchildren. She was born November 26, 1957, as Nylie Delois Snow in McIntosh, AL, but her father preferred to call her Susie, inspired by The Everly Brothers’ hit song, “Wake Up Little Susie.” From then on, the nickname stuck. As a member of the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians, Susie made many memories during her time living in or visiting Alabama throughout her life, like “cuttin’ up” with her cousins, attending powwows, and sharing precious moments with her beloved grandmother, Louella Snow. She often split her time between her hometown and the New Orleans area, eventually living in Uptown New Orleans and the Westbank, which is where she met her husband of nearly 46 years, Randy Boudreaux, Sr. His love for growing plants and produce, as well as raising chickens and rabbits, paired perfectly with her talent for cooking. As a long-time resident of Waggaman, LA, Susie’s children grew up blessed to have a mother who everyone called “Momma.” Local kids knew that they could count on Mrs. Susie to welcome them in to “fix a plate” for themselves. Countless family members and friends were fortunate to have their plates piled high with food at her house over the years, too. To ensure her legacy lived on, Susie took time to write down her favorite recipes to pass on to her loved ones, all written in her beautifully iconic penmanship. Her children, Lil’ Randy (Trista) and Fay (Tyler), and her treasured grandchildren, Chris, Cain, and Layla, will keep her spirit alive with each bite, as her memory and teachings will nourish them forever. Whether you knew her as Mrs. Susie, Aunt Susie, Mawmaw, Momma, or even Nylie, the love and friendship she shared with everyone will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Randy Sr., parents Tisdale Snow, Sr. and Mattie Reed Snow, siblings Jimmy and Tisdale Jr. (Cindy), and many other cherished family members and friends who have since passed on.
All are invited to gather together and share their memories of Susie starting at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Waggaman, 401 Azalea Dr., Waggaman, LA, on Saturday, June 21, 2025. The Celebration of Life memorial service will begin at 2:00pm, and a repast luncheon on site will follow. Flowers are welcome.
