Rev. Paul Vernon Hunt, of Covington, Kentucky, but a resident of New Orleans since 1945, was promoted to Glory on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the age of 90 after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Duracher Hunt for 65 years, and the loving father of Paulette Hunt Mason Bilderback (Pastor Ed Bilderback) and Rebecca Hunt Smith (Pastor Steven A. Smith). He was the devoted grandfather of Pastor Lori Mason Champion (Pastor Joseph B.Champion), Pastor Paul Daniel Mason (Brooke Shockley Mason), Pastor Matthew David Mason (Paula Simoneaux Mason), Stephanie Smith Otterstatter (Jason K. Otterstatter), Rachel Smith Bautista (Johnny E. Bautista), and Josiah William Smith. He was the great-grandfather of Joseph Mason Champion, Connor Paul Champion, Hunter Matthew Mason, Jackson Davis Champion, William David Mason II, Elisabeth Lauren Mason, Joel David Mason, Elias Graham Otterstatter, Kiersten Hope Bautista, Jenna Kate Mason, Isabella Faith Bautista, and Aria Grace Bautista. He was the son of the late Edward Daniel Hunt and the late Margaret Elizabeth Smith Hunt. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Margaret Hunt Smith, Joseph Hunt, Grace Hunt McDowell, Ruth Hunt Gutwein, Maybelle Hunt Kaiser, and his twin Jack Bernon Hunt, and by his son-in-law Pastor William David Mason.
Mr. Hunt was a United States Navy Veteran having served during World War II. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hunt founded Faith Christian Fellowship Church in Gretna, LA. in 1960 and served together in ministry for over 50 years. He was a charter member and served on the pastoral staff of WestPoint Church as Director of Seniors' Ministry.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at WestPoint Church, 664 Behrman Hwy, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 25, 2013, beginning at 5:00 PM for family and from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM for the public and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, at which time the service will begin.
