Peter Sonny Melanson Sr.

Peter Sonny Melanson, Sr. entered peacefully into heaven on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Devoted husband of the late Lois Marie Autin Melanson of 43 years. Loving father of Jerry J. Melanson, Sr. (Michele), Michael A. Melanson (Susan Klar), Susan M. Ward, Lori Ann M. Richard (Kernice), Craig P. Melanson, (Dawn), Michelle M. Campagne (Dale) and the late Peter Sonny Melanson, Jr.. Also survived by his daughter-in-law Mary Ann Melanson.

A proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. Son of the late Ida Adams Melanson and Samuel Melanson. Brother of Albert Melanson (Eley), Douglas Melanson, Sr. (Silvia) and preceded in death his sister Deloris Melanson He is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Age 81, a native of New Iberia, LA and lifelong resident of Marrero, LA.

Peter served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and worked for many years at Gretna Machine and Iron. Upon retiring, he enjoyed fishing, golf, high school football games, spending time with his family and friends, casino and just enjoying life’s adventures. He was a member of Immaculate Conception and St. Rosalie Catholic Church.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 11:00 am. Visitation from 9:00 am until Mass time. Interment in Westlawn Memorial Park, Gretna, LA.
