

Phyllis was born in New Orleans, LA. and spent her youth in Spartanburg, S.C. where she was raised by Bonnie J. Smith Williams, before moving to Marrero as a teenager. Her biological parents, Shirley Bentley Cleveland of Raceland, LA and Phillip Byrd of Hazlehurst, MS reestablished dynamic relationships with Phyllis after this time.
Phyllis held other jobs, but most enjoyed working for the Jefferson Parish Drainage Department as an operator until becoming disabled through an unfortunate accident. She was educated in the Spartanburg county and Jefferson Parish school systems.
Mrs. Barrios is survived by her husband Eugene Barrios, Jr., her sons Troy and Tyrone Bentley and only daughter Ashia Bentley Walker and her grandchildren. From the Bentley family, she is survived by her mother, Shirley, her siblings, Beverly Campbell, Stephanie Joseph, La Marcel Bentley, Wilbert Bentley, Joshua Bentley, and Morris Bentley with their children. From the Williams family, her siblings are, V. Renee Washington, Bridjette Preston, Cedric Byrd, Aricia Farlough, Terrance Hunter and Brandy, Alvin Jr, Torrance, Gregory, Trannie Williams, Angela Burell, and Mashonda Ruth with their children. From the Byrd family, she is survived by her siblings, James Earl, Lenroy and Herbert Byrd with their children and her aunt Essie Mae Sims along with a host of brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Her father, Phillip Byrd preceded her in death.
Everyone that knew Phyllis recounts story after story of how they were able to go to her and confide in her. She was the best listener, and gave freely of herself. Phyllis was a giver, a dutiful wife and matriarch for her family, and reliable friend. Family, friends and coworkers will gather to say their goodbyes to Mrs. Barrios on Saturday, 11/5/11. The funeral will be held at Westside Funeral Home, 5101 WB Expressway, in Marrero beginning with a visitation from 9 AM until the 11 AM funeral service.
