He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Clarice Howard, his beloved sister Catherine Willford, his late sisters Clessie Richey and Willadean Harley, late brothers Buford and Lofton Howard, and his loving children Becky Laine (Johnny), Pam Howard, and David Howard (Mandy). He leaves behind his loving grandchildren Justin Laine, Lacey Bruce, Samantha Howard, Scottie Howard, Caleb Laine (Jessica), and the late Michael Combs, and Mark Combs, as well as great grandchildren Jordan and Jacob.
Ray touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and friends, and his ability to tell enthralling tales. Ray was someone from a rural background and a World War 2 veteran; he loved to speak about his time in the service and about his early life in Alabama.
Ray has lived a full and long life and has worked in a variety of hands-on jobs such as painting cars at General Motors, and cooking for crews on Power Offshore oil rigs. Ray is also known for his beautiful cabinet creations made in partnership with his wife Clarice. He devoted his hardworking skills to making handmade kitchen cabinets and other home furnishings.
Ray was a man who truly enjoyed connecting and sharing his experiences with others. Thank you to all of his family, friends, and neighbors for your support. It has truly been appreciated.
To honor his memory a visitation for Ray will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA 70072. A committal service will directly follow at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Ave.Terrytown, LA 70056.
