Richard Edward Mills

Richard Edward Mills, age 57, of Lafitte, Louisiana passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024. He was born in El Paso, Texas to Richard and Gloria Mills. Richard was married to the love of his life, Doris Bruce Mills for 17 years. Devoted father of his only son, Dustin Bruce (Brittany). Son In Law of Gustave Bruce and the late Dorothy Bruce. Brother In Law of John, Gus, Jr. (SueAnn), the late Dale, Terry, and Tracy. He is survived by his best friend, Troy Billiot. Richard is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Richard was employed by Grand Isle Shipyard, where he worked as a pipe fitter for over 15 years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, camping, barbequing, and spending quality time with his family and friends. In the past few months, he especially enjoyed playing cards and spending days with his friend, Mondo Lumas. Richard was the type of person that always wanted to help someone else, even during his own struggle with cancer. He wanted to do for others and not show his struggles.

When God gave me Richard, he knew I needed and angel on Earth. I couldn’t have picked a more loving and caring father for Dustin. Richard will be remembered by the hearts of many, and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know and love him.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 9th, 2024 at Barataria Baptist Church, 2596 Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte, Louisiana. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM and continue until the service time. Everyone is encouraged to wear their favorite fishing shirt.
