Sam Bowman

Sam Bowman Sr. passed away on August 9, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born on June 27, 1934 to the late William A. Bowman, Sr. and Irene Lemoine Bowman. Beloved husband of the late Maizelle Bowman, Diane Lafitte and Gloria Kleinpeter. Loving father of Cherilyn Frught (Stephen), Samantha Bowman, Sam Bowman, Jr. (Melissa), Jack Lafitte, Debra Smith (Walter), Evon Dassau (Joe), Paul Dassau, John Dassau (Melissa) and the late Peter Dassau (Debbie). Proud grandfather of Jennifer, Ryan, Ashley, Lance, Nia, Walter, Darrell, Natasha, Christopher, Destiny, Heather, Jessica and 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late William Bowman, Jr., Mason Bowman, Oscar Bowman, Jesse Bowman, Mary Hooter, Cecile Dufour, Lena Dufour, Luby Mae Lemoine and Eva Bunch. Sam is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Sam was a native of Cottonport, Louisiana and a longtime resident of Waggaman, Louisiana. Sam served his country in the U.S. Army, where he was ranked as Specialist Four, and was honorably discharged on October 1, 1958. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of IUOE Local 406.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway in Marrero. Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM and burial will immediately follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale.
