Shirley Bowers Sanders

Shirley Bowers Sanders passed away on March 27, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born in Westwego, Louisiana on March 31, 1930 to the late Allen and Eula Bowers. The devoted wife of 58 years to the late Dossie “Curley” Sanders. Loving mother of Lynn Guillot (Alton) and the late John Henry Ard (Denise). Proud grandmother of David L. Ard, Michael Ard (Whitney), Alton Guillot, II (Chloe) and Lynnette Smith (Cary) and great-grandmother of Logan Smith, Cheyenne Smith, Royce Guillot and Ava Ard. Sister of June Lowery (Art) and Gerald “Jerry” Drinkwater and the late Fredrick Bowers, Meryle Benoit, Edna Collingsworth, Nora Romano, Allen Bowers, Sr., Larry Bowers, Brent Bowers, Dorcas Childress, Kerry Bowers, Stanley Bowers and Grace Bowers. Shirley was also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Shirley was a resident of the Westbank for most of her life. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing, gardening and playing bingo, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Shirley had a wonderful life and was loved and will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Wynhoven Nursing Home and to the staff of Serenity Hospice for their loving care they gave Shirley.

Family and friends are welcome to attend the visitation on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Westside/Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 5101 Westbank Expressway, Marrero. Funeral Mass will begin at 12:00 PM and burial will immediately follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna.
