Steven Paul Gervais

Steven was an artist at heart and an adventurer in spirit. A gifted executive pastry chef, he built a remarkable career transforming his imagination into edible works of art. His talent took him to extraordinary places, including Honduras, where he was flown to create a wedding cake.

One of Steven’s most memorable accomplishments came in 2007, when he became the first pastry chef to create a gingerbread replica of New Orleans’ iconic St. Louis Cathedral for Harrah’s first Miracle on Fulton Street. The intricate cathedral was a testament not only to his skill as a pastry chef, but also to the patience, artistry, and imagination he brought to his craft.

Throughout his career, Steven was entrusted with countless events, ranging from elegant celebrations to occasions that were decidedly more unconventional. No matter the setting, one principle remained important to him: the people on his team deserved to be treated with love, care, and respect. That belief extended beyond his professional life and reflected something fundamental about how Steven sought to move through the world.

His creativity was never confined to the kitchen. Steven was a talented musician who played multiple instruments, particularly drums and guitar. He loved Prince, motorcycles, astrology, animals, art, music, and travel. He possessed a natural wanderlust and a curiosity that continually drew him toward new places and experiences.

Steven especially loved his animals. His beloved dogs Harley, Kee-Kee, Winston, and Nefertiti, and his cat Deacon, who preceded him in death, were treasured members of his family and held a special place in his heart.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, Norman Gervais, as well as his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Nicole; his daughter, Krystal Gervais; his mother, Betty Gervais; his siblings; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, colleagues, and others whose lives he touched.

Steven’s life was uniquely his own—creative, adventurous, colorful, complicated, and filled with stories. He will be remembered through his family, his music, his artistry, the extraordinary things he created with his hands, and the many pieces of himself he left behind in the people who loved him.

May the musician always have something beautiful to play, the artist always have something beautiful to create, and the wanderer finally know rest.

A funeral service celebrating Steven’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church (OLPS), 146 4th Street, Westwego, Louisiana 70094.
