Tim was the son of the late Frank N. and Alma C. Thiel. Devoted husband of the late Vanda Maria Thiel (nee Taulli). Brother of Lt. Col. G. Gary Thiel (Crystal); late Keith Thiel, Sr., Lorraine Thiel, & Gary Louis Thiel. Grandson of the late Frank R. and Julia C. Thiel. Uncle of Charlotte Thiel, Samantha Malone, Miranda, late “Niki” Thiel and three great-nieces and nephews. Brother-in-Law to Crystal Langlois-Thiel; Laurie, Janice & Audrey Taulli. Tim is also survived by four or five Godchildren, one of which was the late Keith Thiel, Jr. The family would like to extend a very special recognition to Linda Bates of Jefferson, Louisiana; a close and dear friend who shared daily conversation with Tim for 7 years.
He was born in New Orleans and spent his life in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. He was a resident of Kenner at the time of his death. He graduated from West Jefferson High School, a proud Buccaneer, and attended University of New Orleans . He retired from the Clerk of Court’s office after a 30-year career.
Tim was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. His favorite hobbies were reading, building models, and Alabama Crimson Tide football. He was a BIG Bama fan…ROLL TIDE! He loved books and bookstores, museums, and history. He was known for his humor and gently teasing people. Tim was genuinely personable; warm and kind to strangers. He always had a smile to give and laughs to share. After the death of his wife in 2012, and 34-year marriage, his greatest joy was talking and spending time with Gary. Besides being “little brother”, best friend, and closest confidante, Gary was like the son Tim never had. Charlotte was like a granddaughter. He was most interested in the well-being and daily lives of their family. Tim loved life and people. He was a private man who lived life on his terms and did not need or want anyone’s approval or validation. He was proud to be a Thiel! He prayed daily and loved God. In the past few months, Tim was particularly overjoyed about the upcoming move to Alabama w/Gary. Tim was a lifelong Catholic and dwells with God.
The family of Colonel Thiel invites friends, former co-workers, former neighbors, residents and staff of Nouveau Marc, and surviving relatives (especially the Lebeau family) to pay their respects and remember Tim during this difficult time. Tim will be interred at Westlawn Cemetery with Vanda. The Thiel’s wish to thank the Taulli family for inviting Tim’s burial.
A scholarship is being set-up in Tim’s memory at the University of Southern Mississippi.
