

Verna Sue Gonzales, of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 8, 2026, at the age of 85. She was born November 30, 1940 in Blytheville, Arkansas to the late James and Edith Suggs. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Fidel Gonzales. Loving mother of Vicki Cocanower, Brenda Harris, Judy Lent, Marleny Sosa, Angelica Contreras, Yensi Gonzales, Ricky Gonzales and Nubia Gonzales. Proud grandmother of 19 and great-grandmother of 11. Sister of Dan Suggs.
Over the years, Verna built a life centered on family, faith, service, and her love of Disneyland. She worked at Contra Costa College in the EOPS program in San Pablo, California for 27 years before relocating to New Orleans where she and Fidel have made their home for the past 19 years.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and condolences they have received during this difficult time. Verna was deeply loved and she will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her, but her memory and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those she loved.
A private memorial service will be held for Verna at a later date.
