Walter C. Choquette, Sr., a lifelong resident of Marrero, spent his final days as he wished, in his own home, surrounded and comforted by his loving and devoted family until he passed away on Friday June 8th, 2012. He lived 84 fulfilled years and left behind a legacy of cherished memories and valuable wisdom for all who were blessed to have known him. Walter was a stern yet loving father who expected the best from his children and grandchildren. His family, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews brought him great happiness and pride. Walter left behind his cherished wife and best friend of 64 years, Mary L. Choquette who will continue to carry on the family traditions he held so close to his heart. Walter was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many years with family on Lake Catherine at Big Daddy, a camp that he helped build. In his later years, Walter spent many warm summer days at his sons' camp on Bayou Norman where he made it into a home away from home. Walter was quite the storyteller and he left many spell bound by his historical and life stories. He had a strong sense of fairness, integrity, work ethics and loyalty that were inspirational to everyone he touched as he set the gold standard of how to live life and live it to its fullest.
Walter C. Choquette, Sr. was born on January 23, 1928 to the late Edward Choquette and Ledee L. Choquette and was preceded in death by his four siblings, Vera C. Forsyth, Helen C. Brenckle, Alice C. Hertz and Doris Choquette. He is survived by a host of loving children, Sharon White (Jonny), Walter C. Choquette, Jr. (Kathy), Dr. Mark E. Choquette Sr. (Celeste) and Dan P. Choquette (Laura). He leaves behind his grandchildren, Christy Nielsen (Jens II), Rodney White (Lori), Jacques Choquette (Heather), Mark Choquette, Jr. (Kaila), Kathryn LeCron (Ross), Matthew Choquette (Hope), Christopher Choquette, Lauren Choquette Cameron Choquette, Keith Camper (Sarah), and Jennifer Camper. Walter was also blessed to watch come into this world 15 beautiful great grandchildren as well. Another member Walter held close to his heart was his nephew Dean F. Marullo Sr., who he loved as one of his own children. Walter served in the U. S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was active in the VFW and served as Commander of Post 7307, and Louisiana State Commander. Walter was also a member of the Lion's Club and was instrumental in the ground breaking of the Lion's Club in Marrero. Worked 8 years with Southern Pacific Railroad, retired after 22 years from Avondale Shipyards then co-founded C and W Air Repair. In loving memory of the late Walter C. Choquette, Sr. and to all those near and dear, this is Caveman's "last whistle".
