The son of Florence and Royal Law, he was born in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, in 1930. He was one of three children, and was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Malcom Law, and sister Mrs. Alice Law Biles.
Dr. Law was noted for his wit and humor as well as his cool blue eyes and keen intelligence. He loved to remind us that he was born on the kitchen table, and that during his childhood he sang on the radio until his parents got a smaller model and he kept sliding off. In 1952, Dr. Law graduated Summa Cum Laud with a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Wilkes College, where he met his future bride, the beautiful Elaine Bogan. They married in 1953. Don enlisted in the army after graduation, and served two years active duty at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he was employed by General Electric in New York, and during the space race relocated his family to Florida where he was employed by Martin Marietta and Honeywell. He holds both a Masters and Doctoral degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, Gainesville. He accepted a faculty position with the University of Georgia's Terry College School of Business in 1968. During President Carter's term as governor of Georgia, Dr. Law was a consultant with the Carter Administration. Professor Law joined the accounting faculty of Augusta College in 1974. He retired from academia in 1990. Dr. Law was a lifelong learner, taking a variety of classes up until his 80's. He and his wife travelled extensively; He and the Augusta College drama department went to Greece where Dr. Law performed the role of King Agamemnon in the classical play!
A dedicated and generous husband, father, and grandfather, Dr. Law's greatest love was for his family. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 62 years, Elaine Bogan Law, of Augusta. He is survived by three sons, Douglas Royal Law and wife Joyce of Augusta, GA; Gary John Law and wife Terry of Appling, GA; Donald Bruce Law and wife Peggy of Athens, GA; and ten grandchildren, Brandi Ansley, William Alastair Courtland-Law, Armand and wife Kaylee Law, Gary-John Law, Mary Law, Daniel Law, Paul Law and wife Jessie Law, Sarah Law, Abby Law, and Donald Law; and six great-grandchildren; also to his lasting memory an endless stream of devoted friends.
Dr. Law, C.P.A., was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi National Accounting Fraternity, the International Council for Small Business, and attended the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta where he was a past treasurer. Papa Law was a prolific reader, an avid gardener, as was his wife Elaine, a hiker, an ecologist and naturalist who instilled a love of the outdoors in his family. He was kind and held great compassion for his fellow man. His sense of humor was legendary. One of his favorite sayings was, "An old accountant never dies. He just loses his balance." But alas, we have lost him and the world is a sadder place for it. Dr. Law was well loved by his three sons and family. He will be missed greatly. Godspeed & BOSK!
A private service will be held by the family. Donations in Dr. Law's memory may be made to the Gift of Honor Program at Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta, 3501 Walton Way Extension, or the Augusta Friends of the Library.
