Donovan Malthus Pugh was born on November 6, 1940 in Pascagoula, Mississippi to Malthus Fitchulee Pugh and Estelle Corley Pugh. Five years later, he became a big brother to little sister Janet, whom he nicknamed 'Gondally'.
As the son of a Coast Guardsman, he lived in various places growing up, including Daytona Beach and Boston. Perhaps this is why he had a love of travel and was always up for an adventure.
He graduated from Richmond Academy (Augusta, GA) in 1959, and was so proud to be a trumpet player in the band during his time there.
He married the love of his life, Melba Ann, on June 27th, 1964. He loved all of his girls; daughters Debbie (Randy) and Carole, and granddaughter Camilla.
He worked as an electrical engineer, and learned some of his trade by running electrical wiring for his father when he was a teenager. He studied electronics at United Electronics Institute in Louisville, KY. In 1978, he accepted a job with E-Z-GO Textron and remained there until his retirement in 2006. In 1988, he was credited as being one of two inventors of a Microprocessor Controlled Battery Charger (Patent 5013992). He also spent various parts of his professional career at Motorola, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Even after retirement, he was always working on a project, which usually involved fixing something that was broken (lawnmower, golf cart, tractor).
He liked to study the bible, and later in life, became one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Don was a lover of all kinds of music, in particular bluegrass. He loved his Banjo and attending live music events.
He was a Ham Radio operator (call sign WB4JQW) since his younger days, a hobby passed down from his father.
As her 'Poppy', he loved watching his granddaughter dance.
He loved his dog, Rebel. He loved to be outside, to garden and to be on his tractor.
He left our world on September 4th, 2022, predeceased by his parents and sister.
He will be so terribly missed.
