
Mrs. Edna Joyce Stella Old Butler, 83, of Evans, Georgia entered into rest at her home, Thursday, April 4, 2013. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Benjamin F. “Bill” Butler in 1999.
Mrs. Butler was the youngest bride aboard the USS Argentina that left Southampton, England for New York in 1946. It was the first official war bride contingent. After a long, extended voyage with her 14 month old son, at last they were reunited with her husband who was serving in the United States Army. Mrs. Butler worked for over 20 years for Doctors & Merchants Credit Bureau and for Radio Cab for numerous years. She was a dedicated loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Mrs. Butler is survived by her son, Richard (Patricia) Butler of Evans; daughter, Diana S. Butler of Evans; son, Douglas F. (Linda) Butler of Atlanta; daughters, Maureen E. (Joe) Lamberth of Blythe; Irene J. (Tom) Eckles of Las Vegas, and Ruth Ann “Rudie” (Terry) Waller of Martinez; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, April 7, 2013 in the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Pastors Dusty Wammack and Bob Purvis officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Eric Eckles, David Butler, Scott Butler, JR Lamberth, Bryan Waller and James Waller. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
