Born in New Orleans, LA to the late Herbert and Frances Chalk Basey, spending a majority of his life in Evans, GA where he worked as a heavy machinery mechanic and shop foreman at Blair Construction for 41 years. He was also a passionate race car driver who was well known to the dirt track racing community as ‘The Gambler 4’. When he wasn’t working or on the track, Ed enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, hunting, and restoring his 55’ Chevy Belair.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle, friend, and mentor to many. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy Odom Basey; daughters, Amy Yechou (Scott), Jennifer (Ryan) Jennison, Angela (Sam) Brown; brother, Ricky Basey; six grandchildren, Joseph Yechou (Rachel), Kenza Yechou, Tyler Blackwell, Claire Basey, Bailee Brown, Georgia Brown; close nephew, Jeffery (Ruby) Basey, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made out to P.O. Box 5460, Augusta, GA 30916, c/o Cathy Basey, to help as she grieves the loss of her other half for over 50 years.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, September 24, 2023 from 2:00 until 4:00PM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez. A brief memorial service will be held at 4:00PM, Sunday in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home following the visitation.
