Elaine attended Rivers High School in Charleston and spent her youth studying piano, singing, and performing at the Dock Street Theatre in musical productions. She enjoyed frolicking the beaches of Sullivan’s Island and the Isle of Palms with her friends and cousins and working in the family’s King Street business.
She studied Music at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and later transferred to the University of Georgia where she was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon. She received a Bachelor of Elementary Education in 1958 and taught First Grade at Barrow Elementary School in Athens, GA while her husband, Louis Saul, earned his Juris Doctorate Law degree. She was a devoted mother and wife who enjoyed participating in the Adas Yeshurun Synagogue Sisterhood where she often sang and performed in community productions. For many years, she was a Young Judea Counselor at the Augusta Jewish Community Center. Her other passions included the Jewish organization Hadassah, where she served on the board of the Augusta chapter. Elaine continued her passion of teaching through developing a mentorship with a young man who had a learning disability. She taught him to read, which enabled him to become employed. They continued to have a meaningful friendship for many years.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Saul, and her loving sister, Phyllis Cohen Slesinger, and brother-in-law, Paul Slesinger. Elaine is survived by her son, Brian Saul, and wife Lainie; her daughter, Jean Saul Jackson, and husband Gary; and four grandsons, Marc Saul, Jack Saul, Aaron Jackson, and Isadore Jackson, and his wife, Olivia.
