A wife, mother, sister, aunt and daughter who was inspiring and independent will be missed by her daughters Barbara and Doris (Todd). As well as brother Ernie, wife Ingrid, sons Rob and Rick with wife Anja, daughter Linda (deceased) and husband Rocky and Elfriede’s grand nieces Natasha, Melanie and grand nephews Alexander, Marcus, Mathew with wife Chealsea. John’s sister Mary Anne and husband Tommy.
Elfriede is pre-deceased by her husband John McLean and partner and friend Norman Farrar.
Elfriede was born in Germany and later relocated to Canada to start her family after the war. She moved back to Germany with daughters Barbara and Doris and began a career in translation and teaching German to American Soldiers where she met her husband John McLean.
Once married the family moved to the US first Oklahoma, then New York and finally settled in Augusta Georgia where John was stationed as Lt. Colonel. Elfriede obtained her Bachelor and Masters degree in Librarianship in her 40’s and then took a position at Augusta College Library until her retirement.
She enjoyed her birthday club and German friends Renate, Margot, Barbara, and Monika for their regular get togethers. As well as chatting with Rosemarie and her ‘Bruecken” friend Marianne, and family and friends in Germany.
She will be missed for her inquisitive nature, her determination and independence and sensitive concern for others.
Funeral Services will be held on April 1, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road and she will be buried in Beaufort, SC next to John.
