It is with great sadness that the family of Ella Thomas Holcomb, “Nanny”, announces her passing on June 13, 2019, at the age of 85 years, after an 8-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Ella was preceded in death last November by her devoted husband of 68 years, Herschel Richard Holcomb, and her eldest son, Richard Glenn Holcomb. Ella will be lovingly remembered by her children, Russell David Holcomb and Sandy Holcomb Woods. Nanny will also be fondly remembered by her only grandchild, Philip Woods. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Ella attended Brown High School. Throughout her life, she thoroughly enjoyed her roles as housewife, mother, and grandmother. Ella was a talented artist, seamstress, pianist, and furniture refurbisher. In her spare time, she enjoyed researching genealogy, brailling children’s books, reading, and cooking for her family. Nanny was especially devoted to her role as a loving grandmother.

A celebration of life will be held at 4pm on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd, Martinez, Georgia 30907.

Ella was so sweet and concerned when I was going through my treatment for breast cancer in 2015. Her calls to check on me always made me feel better and we had so much to catch up on since we were once neighbors many years ago. Prayers for you through this sad and difficult time.
