Mr. James Pierce Blanchard

EVANS, Ga. - James Pierce Blanchard, 94, died Saturday August 24, 2013 and is now with Jesus and his beloved wife of 53 years, the late Mary Ann Jones Blanchard. Born in Leah, GA, to the late Talmadge and Claudia Morris Blanchard, Mr. Blanchard graduated from Leah Community School, then attended Georgia Southern University. He served in the United States Army in WWII, then briefly in the National Guard. He retired from Bentley Brothers Furniture Company. He was a faithful member and deacon of Warren Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law Mary Ann and Michael Mead, St. Simons, GA, Rebecca and Don Miller, Harlem GA, and Jamie and Alan Johnson, Evans GA; grandchildren Mary Bennett Wolfe (Chris), Jessica Blanchard Miller, Alan Scott Johnson, James Wesley Johnson; great- granddaughter Maran Christine Wolfe; siblings Doris O'Hearn, Augusta, GA and Vernon Blanchard, Appling GA . Preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers Russell, Wayne, Clarence and Estes Blanchard; sisters Thelma Poland, Daisy Watson, Nell McBride and Evelyn Anderson. The family wishes to express their gratefulness to Vernon and Lynnette Blanchard, Frances Wingfield and Anna Chinikaylo for their faithfulness and compassion. A former member with The Augusta Boating Club, where he loved camping, boating and fishing. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and NASCAR racing fan. Mr. Blanchard sang 'bass' for many years in church choirs and enjoyed gospel music to the fullest. He will be remembered also by his sense of humor, friendliness toward others and beautiful whistling. He was a devoted family man, spending time with his family was most important to him. Funeral services will be held 1PM Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Elliott Sons - Columbia Road Chapel with Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be nephews James Anderson, Dr. Stanley Anderson, Whit Blanchard, Martin Blanchard and sons-in-law. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM Monday evening at Elliott Sons, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez.
