As I go through my memories of you, one of my favorites is when I  was a little girl in East View and I found Saturn for the first time through my telescope. I ran in the house and told everyone. You smiled at me and said with so much pride, "That's my girl"

Aunt Mary, Uncle Arthur, Uncle James and my mom, Rosetta (breeva) all grew up in Mississippi. My mom talks about them all the time. Telling me stories of when they were young and how Grandpa Thompson would walk down the road coming from work and they ran to greet him. Them all moving up to Chicago eventually to be with grandmommy (Jessie Thompson). I'm gonna miss our 1st of the month texts to each other. I miss u and will always love u Uncle James.

A poem just for you dad...

Finally Resting

No, I didn't get up early and see the sunrise today.
No jumping right out of bed to get an early start and get on my way.
No coffee perculating, no breakfast making.
No chasing the dog outside, or looking for the cat who loves to hide.
No first thing in the early-morning walk.
No watching tv shows with hosts who talk.
No game show trivia or court tv cases.
No long drawn out meetings or time wasted...when it could have been an email instead.
No working long hours thinking I'd rather just be in bed.
No spouse, kids, or pets competing for my time.
No after dinner glass of red wine.
No yells after glass shattered and little voices saying "it wasn't me" or "I didn't do it".
No cleaning after messes of kids or grown ups and not complaining ...because by now I'm used to it.
No "what's for dinner?" or "did you take out the trash?"
No searching my wallet for the debit card at the grocery store because "who still carries cash?"
No checking the stock market ticker or watching the evening news.
No storylines with constantly conflicting views.
No hot shower to wash the long day away.
No trying to find the right words to say when I pray.
No thoughts running a million miles a minute that cause me trouble sleeping.
No minding the brightness of the moon through my window curtains peeping.
No complaints, no worries, and no regrets festering.
No, just me, by myself, laying, finally resting.
