Janie R Merritt

Mrs. Ruth Gillespie Merritt, 92, wife of the late Jerry Merritt, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018. We, her family and friends, are sad, but we are thankful that she is now celebrating with King Jesus in Heaven.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at the Columbia Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Sides officating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home.

Mrs. Merritt is a retired teacher, longtime member of Curtis Baptist Church, and has made her home in Augusta, Daphne, Alabama and Aiken, SC.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Donnan and Connie Morris of Augusta, GA, Janie Donnan of Aiken, SC and Carole Shackelford of Pensacola, Fl. Also her son, Murphee Donnan of Columbia, SC. Grandchildren are Andrew Donnan, Cory, Nicholas and Vincent Morris, Zachary Shackelford, and her great-grandson, Benjamin Donnan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist missionaries and life-long friends, Walace and Eleanor Turnbull, to contribute to their work in Haiti.
