Jerry Wayne Campbell, 72, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Augusta, GA. He was born in Geneva County AL, on May 6, 1949, the youngest of three children to Jack and Wilmer (Gibson) Campbell. His stillborn twin brother, Jimmy, and older siblings, George and Jenny, preceded him death. Jerry leaves behind a complex family that loves him very much and will miss him forever, including his wife, Lynn; sons, Andrew Campbell and Kade Gill; daughter, Crystal Gill; daughter-in-law Jamie Whitaker Campbell; and granddaughter, Miah Campbell.
Jerry lived - as an aviation mechanic at Ft. Rucker, AL; a furniture salesman with Skinner Furniture; and a public worker with the city of Harlem, GA. He retired as Vice President with SouthTrust Bank, having also worked with Bankers First for many years. Jerry loved - as a son, a brother, a husband (twice!), a father, an uncle, a grandfather.
Those who knew him knew he loved to golf, volunteer at his church, chuckle/tease, coach his sons' sports teams, cook, grill and smoke meats, watch his stories, and deep sea fish. He loved animals and they loved him, finding their way to him for affection whether large (like a horse) or small (like a toy poodle).
Jerry was a man of strong faith and a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Martinez. He was honest and forthright, a man of integrity who did not think of himself more highly than he ought.
Like everyone, Jerry wanted to be remembered. Not for the jobs he held, or the places he lived, or even for the family who mourns him now. Jerry wanted to be remembered for the way he made you feel—good and full of life and love.
There will be a celebration of Jerry's life on Saturday, September 4, 2021 beginning at 2:00pm
with visitation starting at 1:00pm. The celebration and visitation will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 4594 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
