HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - John Americus Arrington, Retired Command Sergeant Major , husband of Ozie Pearl Arrington, entered into rest on Sunday, December 4th, at Baptist Hospital Jackson, MS. John was born on March 10, 1937 in Hope Hull, Alabama to Willie B and Corene Arrington. He was the first of their 10 children. He is preceded in death by his parents and four siblings ( Eula Conley, Annie Laura Slezak, Gladys Elliott, Emma Yvonne Sawyer).
John was a committed husband, father, uncle, granddad and friend who will be dearly missed. He leaves to cherish fond loving memories with Ozie Pearl his wife of sixety-four years, daughter Dr. Kristina A Cherry (Clifford) ; son Jonathon D. Arrington (Joy) ; daughter Yvette (Reginald) Juran.
John loved the Lord , was baptized and received Christ at an early age. He was a praying man, and devoted church member wherever stationed. As his Christian ministry he served on the usher board, parish council, as a Deacon, Mason , Usher, Sunday school superintendent and teacher.
He was skipped a grade in school and graduated high school as Salutatorian from Prentice high school in Montevalla, Alabama. He entered into the United States Army when he was only 17 years old and because he was underaged his parents had to sign him in. He retired after 22 years of service earning the highest rank of Command Sergeant Major. He received numerous military awards and decorations: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious service, National Defense Service to name a few. He was stationed stateside and had several overseas tours including Vietnam, Korea, Germany, and Thailand. He earned college degrees, Cum Laude including Associate of Art and Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration.
John loved to spend time with his family, repair electronics, grill, garden and take family cruises. He was an intelligent, kind and giving person and lovingly called “Bubba”. He was a savvy businessman and owned and operated Arrington’s tv repair shop for many years.
John leaves behind his Grandchildren( Jonathon II, Jefferson, Jessica), siblings (Willie Lois, Sarah, Corrina, Benjamin, Terita) , in-laws (Pellum and Ruby Moncrief, Bishop Johnny Harris, Anginette Arrington) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends. Family will receive guests at 11:00 am, Funeral services will be 12:00pm, Tuesday , December 13, 2022 , Bicentennial Chapel, Ft. Gordon, Ga. with the Chaplin and Elder Eddie B Arrington officiating. Interment will be 1:30 pm, Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Dean Bridge Road, Augusta, GA . Elliott and Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA.
