Holden was passionate about videography and enjoyed taking videos and photos of his family. He was extremely proud of having attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA. He was a huge fan of Marvel comics and science fiction movies. His favorite author was American astrophysicist, planetary scientist, and science commentator Neil deGrasse Tyson. He loved to travel, especially to the beach. He has lived in Germany and Panama and always planned to retire outside of the United States with his wife next to a beach or an ocean. He enjoyed having spirited discussions about national and international politics, civil rights, social change, and investments, and learning about new technology. He insisted that all electronics in the Holden Household be Apple or Amazon products, considered himself to be a "sneaker-head", and would only allow authentic Adidas shoes to be worn by his wife and daughters.
He loved all kinds of music, but his first love was hip-hop. For many years, he hosted the local television show "Power Hitz with J. Holden", where he would highlight local businesses, interview bystanders on the street, and play videos featuring different music genres.
Holden worked at WJBF News Channel 6 for over 20 years as an Emmy-award winning videographer, editor and producer.
