Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 2pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Oconee Memorial Park, Seneca, SC.
Born in Walhalla, SC, he was the son of the late Dallas Jefferson Gillespie and Lillian Cheek Gillespie. Cooper was a retired Military Police officer. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Retired 709th MP Battalion, and Military Police Association. He served as Chief of Police in Walhalla, SC from 1972 until 1982. He was a member of Windsor Spring Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and deacon. He loved to travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Dallas Gillespie, Mary Cushman, and Cobern Moore. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Deane Gillespie, son Mark Gillespie, New York, NY, step – daughter, Gail (Lee) Murph, Greenwood, SC, nieces, Dallas Shirley, Robin Smith, and nephew, Robert Gillespie.
The family will receive friends from 1pm until the hour of services in the Mausoleum Chapel of Oconee Memorial Park .In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Windsor Spring Baptist Church, 3692 Windsor Spring Road, Augusta, GA 30906.
