Joyce Messick Richardson passed away on August 24, 2026, at the age of 83 in Aiken, South Carolina. She was born in Goshen, Alabama. She was a longtime resident of Georgia, living in Columbus, Martinez, and Acworth. Her final years were spent living near her daughter in South Carolina.
Ms. Richardson was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Wilson and Lillie Mae Messick; her husband, Ronald Richardson; and her brother, Charles Messick. She is survived by her son, Michael Richardson; daughters Sandra Black and Rhonda Barry; sister Ann Vickers; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She grew up on a farm in the Goshen area of Pike County, Alabama. School buses in Pike did not go as far as the farm, but her father arranged for nearby Crenshaw County to provide bus service for her siblings. She graduated from Luvern High School in 1960.
As a child, she worked on the family farm. As an adult, she primarily worked in retail. Some of the companies she worked for included Grants, Piggly Wiggly, and Western Auto, and she retired after working in a CVS warehouse for twenty years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, thrifting, and finding new pieces to add to her collections. She was an avid viewer of Western movies and a reader of books.
There will be a visitation in Martinez, GA, and Troy, AL.
