Karen Sue (Gratton) Burton

July 24, 1954 - July 13, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Karen Sue Gratton Burton, who peacefully entered her heavenly home on July 13, 2026.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Karen lived a life defined by unconditional love, compassion, kindness, and devotion to her family. She Graduated from Allegheny High School before she joined the military where she meet her husband of 51 years. She was in the WAC before it was fully integrated into the regular Army and began training alongside men. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone she met feel welcomed, valued, and loved. She never met a stranger, and her warm smile, gentle spirit, and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Family was Karen’s greatest joy. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and adoring great-grandmother who treasured every moment spent with those she loved. She especially enjoyed bringing her family together around the table, where her home-cooked meals, warm hospitality, and caring heart made every gathering meaningful. Whether celebrating holidays, birthdays, or simply enjoying time together, Karen created memories that her family will cherish forever.

Karen leaves behind her devoted husband of 51 years, Newell E. Burton Jr; her oldest daughter, Lisa Watkins, and her husband, Kenneth Watkins, of Madison, Alabama; and their children, daughter Cassidy Tillery and her husband, Donald Tillery, and their child, Annelise. Daughter, Brianna Young and her husband, Connor Young, and their children, Lochlyn, Elizabeth, and Rowen. Son, Andrew Watkins.

She is also survived by her son, Shawn Burton, and her youngest daughter, Helen Burton, both of Martinez, Georgia. Her beloved brother and sister; many cherished nieces and nephews; extended family members; and countless friends who will forever remember her kindness, generosity, and loving spirit.

Karen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Anna Marie Klisavage Gratton and Harry Gratton.

Although Karen is no longer with us in body, her love, kindness, and gentle spirit will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through her family, the friendships she cherished, and the countless lives she touched. While we will miss her every day, we find comfort knowing that this is not goodbye forever, but until we meet again.
