Kevin Earl Young, born on February 21, 1959, passed away on February 2, 2026.
Baseball wasn’t just something Kevin played—it was the thread that ran through every chapter of his life. A standout athlete at Oakland Mills High School, he became a familiar name on the field, known for his skill, discipline, and presence long before accolades followed. His talent carried him to Valencia Community College and Howard University, and eventually into professional baseball when he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1980 MLB January Draft. Kevin spent three seasons in the minor leagues, fulfilling a dream shaped by years of hard work and belief in the game.
But it was after his playing days that Kevin’s impact grew even larger. For more than four decades, he gave himself to coaching—baseball and softball alike—sharing not only technique, but his love for the sport. Generations of players learned from him, many going on to compete at the collegiate level and beyond, all carrying a piece of Kevin’s influence with them.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Earl Young; his sister, Kathy; and his son, Baby Kevin. He is survived by his sister, Kelly; his sons, Kasey and Kyle; his daughter, Katrina Hamilton; and his niece, Karmen, along with countless players, families, and friends whose lives were shaped by his steady presence.
Kevin Earl Young leaves behind a legacy measured not only in seasons played or players coached, but in the hundreds of young lives changed by his commitment, kindness, and enduring love for baseball. His influence will continue to echo on fields and in batting cages for years to come.
