Born in China, King embarked on a remarkable journey at 19, leaving his homeland to pursue a culinary career in Panama. There, he learned a few Spanish words that he used throughout his life, forging connections with Spanish-speaking colleagues in the kitchens where he worked. Later, he moved to New York, where he met his beloved wife, Lian. Together, they settled in Tennessee, where King cherished spending quality time with his nieces and nephew.
With determination and hard work, King and Lian saved enough to open their first restaurant, Loon Wah, in Louisville, Georgia. They went on to establish two more restaurants, where King’s infectious smile and impeccable sense of humor won the hearts of customers. A devoted father, King adored his daughter, Annie, who brought him immense joy. Over his nearly 40-year career, he became renowned for his mastery behind the wok.
After retiring, King passionately mentored aspiring restaurateurs, sharing his expertise with a tough yet caring approach, always emphasizing exceptional flavor. Beyond the kitchen, he was a formidable mahjong master, reportedly winning 9 out of every 10 rounds. Having immigrated to America, King developed a love for football and basketball, even becoming a trusted advisor to sports bettors.
A visitation for King will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
