Lorene Broxton James, beloved Southern Steel Magnolia, courageous Army spouse and Mom, loyal friend and helpful neighbor, and a faithful follower of Jesus crossed over into His presence on The Lord’s Day, Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Mary Washington Hospital after a season of decline and illness. Survivors include her children, Gary Sexton (Frances Jo) of Va., Wayne Sexton (Kay) of Md., Michael Sexton of Ga.; Jeffrey Sexton of Fla.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Dertzo of Fla.; daughter-in-law Diane Turner of Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews from eight siblings scattered around the world. Lorene was preceded in death by her husbands, Lionel Francis Sexton and Henry James; and son Kenneth Sexton. Her life was characterized by a strong sense of family and selfless service and a simple faith in the Saviour, drawing great comfort in times of grief and trial from a sense that “with Him I have all I need.” Her sons celebrate the strong foundation she provided in her gracious manner, a constant encouragement and incredible resilience. Visitation and a memorial service will be held at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Rd., Martinez, Ga. 30907, (706) 868-9637. Visitation will be held from6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 1 with graveside committal at Hillcrest Cemetery, Deans Bridge Hwy, Augusta, Ga.
