SFC Ret. US Army and Ret. Letter Carrier
Evans, GA - Mr. Lowell “Tommy” Harris (SFC Ret. US Army), 81, of Evans, GA passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11am at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors being rendered.
Tommy was born in Ridgeway, VA. He was the son of the late Jesse Ben Harris and Lizzie Myrtle Cox Harris. He was retired from the US Army and US Postal Service. While in the Army he served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He received the Korean Service Medal, Purple Heart, United Nations Service Medal, Occupational Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Sharpshooter Badge, and several Good Conduct Medals. He enjoyed gardening, listening to country music, traveling, camping, spending time with his family and his devotion to his faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy Harris; brothers; Elroy Harris and Jack Harris; and sister, Edith Price. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Harris Hall and husband Rick, Grovetown, GA; Connie Harris Evans, and husband Kurt, Augusta, GA; Angela Harris McLaughlin and husband Jerry, Evans, GA; Debra Dupree and husband Jim, Evans, GA; 5 grandchildren; a niece, Linda Edwards; and 3 nephews, Harold Harris, Ira B. Parker, and Jerry Parker; and 7 additional nieces and nephews from the Rutledge Family who reside in North Carolina and Florida.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant United Methodist Church (Omega Worship), 4536 Washington Road, Evans, GA 30809.
