

With deep sadness and sense of loss, the family of Mrs. Pamela O’Neal Backus announces her passing and homecoming. Services will be held 01/13/24, 11am with Pastor James Hyder, Philadelphia Methodist Church, officiating.
Pam went to be with her Lord 12/21/23 at 4am. She is survived by her loving husband, William R. Backus, three sons, Richard L. Thompson (Mandy) North Augusta, SC, Nathan R. Backus, Statesboro, GA and Ryan L. Backus (Heather), Evans, GA. Brothers Brisco O’Neal, Evans and Barry O’Neal also of Evans. Her grandchildren Riley, Connor and Dylan Thompson, Sutton and Bennett Backus.
Pamela was a lifelong resident of Columbia County and graduated from Evans High School, Class of 1974. She began her career with the Federal Government at Fort Gordon with the Military Police School and retired as Prisoner of War Coordinator from the VA Medical Center, July 2002. In October of 2011 Pam received her second chance at life with a bi-lateral lung transplant. She knew this was a gift from God and she defended her health with gusto. She attended Philadelphia Methodist Church, Harlem, GA to worship with her husband. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, friends, family and working in her garden.
The family will receive friends at the church on 01/13/24. Following the service, a meal will be provided in the fellowship hall.
