Peter Emanuel Slavovsky

Born in 1951 in São Paulo, Brazil, Peter was the son of Emanuel and Olga Slavovsky, who had migrated from their beloved home in Vienna, Austria following the devastation of World War II. Alongside his parents and sisters, Rosemarie and Evelyn, the family lived in Brazil and Austria until finally settling in Wayne, New Jersey in 1963. Peter’s childhood was marked with a closeness to his family, including his paternal aunt and uncle, Marcy and Silvio Niku, who were like second parents to him.

Peter met his wife Judy while attending the University of Michigan. They fell in love over their shared childhoods in Brazil, their coming to faith in Christ through Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru), and their commitment to deep friendships formed in college and beyond. Peter and Judy have three children, with whom Peter shared his love of hiking, being in nature, sailing, traveling, skiing, and exploring new cultures. His frequent travels to all corners of the U.S. and abroad were always centered around the high value that he placed on connection with his family members and friends far and wide.

Peter was passionate about his architecture; he was inspired by beauty and wanted to create beautiful spaces wherever he went. Peter’s job moved him and his family to Augusta, GA in 1986, and he quickly became invested not only in his “day job” at Savannah River Site, but also in designing spaces around metro Augusta, whether churches or office buildings or neighborhood centers and more – and he continued this work until his unexpected death. With a deep care for neighbors, he was always active in the communities in which he lived. With a deep care for hospitality, he hosted foreign exchange students and those in need of temporary home. With a deep care for the marginalized, he always sought out those who had need and advocated for better systems of care in the community. With a deep love for Jesus, he invested deeply in ministry opportunities in every church where he was rooted, most recently being Warren Baptist Church, and in missions around the world, such as Romania, Ukraine, and Armenia.

Of all that could be said about Peter, his greatest passions were his family and his love of Christ. Peter and Judy were excited about their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary, and their unwavering love for one another was evident to everyone they encountered. Peter cherished each of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his three children, Christy (Russell), Lisa (Andrew) and Mark (Claire), his eight grandchildren (Justin, Kyle, Adam, Connor, Allison, Peter, Laurel, and Mark), his sister Evelyn (John) and many extended family.

There is truly no way to capture the many lives that Peter’s life impacted. We deeply grieve, but not as those without hope. He is face-to-face with his Savior, and we rejoice in that.

A Funeral Service for Peter will be held at 11:00 AM at Warren Baptist Church Augusta, 3203 Washington Rd, Augusta, Georgia 30907. A reception will be held following the funeral service.
