Robert J Allen

He was born in Latta SC to Herbert Eugene Allen and Nina Dell Johnson Allen June 15, 1938.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Judy (Judith Wooley Hardy Allen) and his daughter Melynda Allen White (Reggie) and Gina Allen Childs (Kevin). His grandsons Brandon Allen Childs, Brady Austin Shivers (Tabitha), Myles Gregory Shivers, and Reid William Childs. He is also survived by his sister Vicki Jo Allen and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene Allen, sisters, Alice Faye Brigman (Richard) and Brenda Allen Hopkins (Jimmy).

After graduating from Latta High school he went to the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1962. He then began his career working as a Science Teacher at Paul Knox Jr High School when he met Judy and they married. They moved to Hampton, SC to start their family and his career with Westinghouse. He then worked with his father at the Mobile Station in Latta until the moved to Cayce where he started work at the South Carolina Department of Transportation in the Research and Materials Lab. He continued his career as the Manager in the lab until he retired after 35 years with the state.

You could always find him in his favorite chair, watching sports, especially The Carolina Gamecock and the Atlanta Braves. Saturday and Sunday were full of football, basketball and baseball, unless a western was on.

Bob was a lifetime member of the Cayce West Columbia Jaycees, the SC Palmetto Corp and was honored with a Life membership as a JCI Senator, number 17501. He supported his wife through their journey in the Jaycee’s and served in most positions in the organization along with working at the SC State Fairgrounds, running haunted house and many fundraisers. For years Bob and Judy were avid square dancers. They camped and square danced with the Rolling Squares and attended many dances with the Tanglefoots.

They moved to Lincolnton GA and then to Martinez GA where they currently reside with their beloved four-legged daughter Dixie.

After retirement, he and Judy enjoyed traveling in their motorcoach throughout the United States. His accomplishments included all 50 states and some international travel. He aspired to go to every national park and made it to 40. They traveled in their motorcoach with the FMCA and became snowbirds in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Funeral arrangements will be through Elliott Sons Funeral Home in Martinez GA. A brief service will be held, on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 4:00 pm and visitation with the family will be 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm before the service.
