Robert William Grove Sr.

23, 2018 at the age 93.

He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Inez Elizabeth Grove; son,

Robert W. Grove, Jr. (Bobby) and wife, Carlee of North Augusta, SC;

daughter, Susan Grove Anderson and husband Stanley of Appling, GA; son,

Manley Grove of North Augusta; daughter, Judith Grove Parks and

husband, Richard of Lubbock, Texas; and daughter, Jennifer Grove Toole

and husband Niles of North Augusta. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren,

and 20 great grandchildren.

Robert was born in Illinois and was the son of the late Darrah and Nona

Grove and also a deceased brother, Richard. He served as a Marine

during World War II and was stationed at Parris Island, SC. He met his

dear wife during this time while on furlough in Savannah, Georgia. Robert

was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church of North Augusta

and retired as a railroad engineer from Sea Board Coast Line after serving

35 years. In retirement, Robert and Inez shared a love of travel, visiting

family and numerous sites across the country.

He will be remembered by his children and grandchildren for the breadth

and depth of his love for them. He considered time well spent with family.

He delighted in easy conversation with those he knew and those he just

met. He was a man who prayed on his knees and knowing that in his later

years he would lose his eyesight and ability to read, he persevered to

read through the Bible each year for many years reading each morning

and evening in His well-worn Bible and devotionals.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Robert’s memory to The Methodist Home, P.O. Box 2525, Macon, GA, 31203-2525, or to a charity of your choice.

The family will have a private graveside gathering at Bonaventure

Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia on Thursday, December 27th at 10AM. Elliott Sons Funeral Home in Martinez, Georgia is handling the arrangements.
