

He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Eugene and Rita Cooper. Thomas served in the Army for 20 plus years. He was a Communication and electronic operator. He also served as a member of the Hawk Missile crew team and served in Vietnam. During his career, Thomas earned medals including National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal (2campaigns); Vietnam Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal (6th Award); 2 O/S bars; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm and armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
In his free time Thomas enjoyed smoking cigars, drinking beer and loved listening to blue grass music. He loved telling his stories to anyone that would listen. His love for his country and the Army was boundless.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Susan Bryant Cooper; daughter, Susan Neubach. He is survived by his son Thomas Oliver Cooper Jr; daughter Amy Beth Cooper Smith (Michael); Gunter Neubach son in law; and son Jerry Cooper; 2 grandchildren, Arianna Smith and Anias Smith along with a host of friends and family he loved dearly.
A visitation will take place at Elliott Sons Funeral Home 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, Georgia 30907 at 11:00 am on Monday, October 10, 2022 with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 pm in the chapel. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Gardens, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta, Georgia 30904 with Full Military Honors.
