Alice Irene Mihill, age 66, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 in Martinsburg, WV. Born in Cheverly, MD, she grew up the area and spent most of her life there in the family home. Eventually, she chose a quieter life in Martinsburg where she spent the last two decades among kind and caring neighbors.
After graduating from Bladensburg High, she landed her first job and steadily advanced through various business office positions over the next few years. She then decided to pursue additional education with the goal of adding to her skills and furthering her career. For her studies she chose Business & Management, earning an Associate's Degree from Prince George's Community College and Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland University College. All while continuing to work and regularly making the dean’s list. Subsequently, she spent the majority of her professional career working as a senior contract specialist at several federal government agencies including the Department of Education, FDA, and DFAS.
From a young age, Alice was inseparable from her treasured dogs and throughout her life kept a variety of other pets too – goldfish, turtles, parakeets, cats, and more. At least one furry friend was always by her side, bringing joy and companionship. She continually supported the Humane Society and other animal advocacy causes and routinely spoiled every animal she met.
In her spare time, Alice was an avid reader, social media contributor, online game player, dabbled at gardening, was a frequent visitor to orchards near and far, fed stray cats, and enjoyed the companionship of walking her dog(s) in the great outdoors by some peaceful body of water. Enamored with the Christmas season, she counted down the days throughout the year.
She is preceded in death by; parents Arthur George, Sr. and Dorothy Elizabeth (Gray) Mihill; sister Dorothy Anne Mihill; and her dear canine companions Rascal, Bandit, Molly (the first), Lassie, Penny, and Ruffian.
Alice is survived by; brother Arthur George, Jr. (Jeanette) Mihill; three nephews Andrew (Kimberly) Mihill, Alex (Morgan) Mihill, and Joshua (Makenzie) Mihill; four grandnieces; three grandnephews; two aunts; numerous cherished cousins and other loved ones; her beloved goldendoodle Molly (the second), and a few adopted cats who collectively brought her comfort and companionship in her final days.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated. Plans are to place her ashes at Harpers Ferry, WV – a timeless place of great beauty she loved dearly.
Memorial donations may be made in Alice's memory to your local humane society, animal rescue organization, or the Berkeley County WV Humane Society, to honor her lifelong advocacy of our furry friends.
