

She is predeceased by her parents, Patty Genevieve Huddleston Riley and Lorin Holt Riley, a brother Robert “Buddy” Riley, and a great grandson, Tyler Daniel Richards.
She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on December 3, 1925 and lived near Pikeville, Kentucky as a child. Her family later moved to Capon Bridge, West Virginia and she graduated from Capon Bridge High School in 1943.
She was a lifelong seamstress and became a textile conservator with the National Park Service in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. She worked to conserve historical items such as George Washington’s tent used at Valley Forge and articles of clothing belonging to Abraham Lincoln, which are now on display at Ford’s Theatre. She then worked independently as a conservator, which took her to many historical sites, until her retirement in 1990.
Anna was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsburg for more than 60 years, was one of the first female elders of the church, and also taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Lyle Johnson, whom she married on November 29, 1946, and her three children, Sandra Sherman (Richard) of Hamilton, Virginia, Beverly Vegas (Vicente) of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, and Daniel B. Johnson (Sherrie) of Hedgesville, West Virginia. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Richard Sherman (Anita Gabrosek) of Pine Grove Mills, Pennsylvania; Laura Sherman (Stuart Orser) of Lovettsville, Virginia; Summer Griffith (Todd) of Inwood, West Virginia; Karen Richards (Curtis) of Hedgesville, West Virginia; Lisa Johnson of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; Leslie Vegas of Manteo, North Carolina; and four great grandchildren, Connor Moss, Lyla and Molly Orser, and Curtis Richards, Jr. (“CJ”). She is also survived by two sisters, Gertrude Johnston of Kansas City, Kansas, and Patricia Adams of Lexington, North Carolina; and brother-in-law Glenwood Johnson, sister-in-law Kitty Hott Swick, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 2pm until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 pm with Rufus Burton officiating. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Johnson, Matthew Hott, Richie Sherman, Laura Sherman, Karen Richards and Leslie Vegas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Congregational Community Action Project (CCAP) c/o the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsburg.
