Brian Conway Downs

Brian C. Downs passed peacefully in the comfort of his home atop North Mountain in West Virginia the morning of Sunday August 16, 2026.

Brian grew up in McLean, Virginia, and was a 1997 graduate of Bishop O’Connell High School where he was a member of the school’s wrestling and football teams. During his youth he was active in Boy Scout Troop 624 in Arlington, Virginia, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Brian then attended Virginia Tech. During this time, he was very active in the school’s rugby program; during his college years he developed a legendary reputation among his teammates both athletically and socially.

After college, Brian found an unexpected creative outlet while working as a dispatcher for a local cab company. Writing anonymously, he gained notoriety through his blog “The Blank Top Chronicles,” which recounted the colorful, difficult, and often dysfunctional customers he encountered on the job. His sharp observations, natural storytelling ability, and humorous perspective earned him a loyal following both locally and internationally.

After leaving his mark on the transportation business, Brian embraced a new chapter and found success in the HVAC industry. As a sales manager and technical consultant, he built a reputation for professionalism, technical expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping both colleagues and customers. His work ethic, intelligence, and ability to connect with people served him well throughout his career, and in life.

Brian's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a devoted husband who adored his wife Terrisa “Tess” Downs more than anything in the world. Their love was the center of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to express his gratitude for the happiness they shared. He was also a dedicated brother and son, loving stepfather and a cherished uncle, always ready with encouragement, guidance, humor, and unconditional support.

Brian was an avid reader, fisherman, guitar player, and an expert marksman. Those who knew Brian will remember his booming voice and infectious laugh, his boundless generosity, his memorable stories, and his ability to find humor even in difficult circumstances. Though he leaves behind an immeasurable void, he also leaves a legacy of love, friendship, and laughter that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Brian is survived by his wife Terrisa J. Downs, stepson Jackson, stepdaughter Taylor, brother Mark M. Downs (Marianne), niece Anna, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was predeceased by his father James C. Downs, his mother Adrienne A. Downs, and his faithful dog Brock.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 11, 2026, at St. John The Beloved Catholic Church in McLean, Virginia at 11 a.m. Interment alongside his parents at Oakwood Cemetery in Falls Church will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Boy Scout Troop 624 in Arlington Virginia, or the Virginia Tech Men’s Rugby Club via the Virginia Tech Foundation.
