Charles D. Beachley, Jr., 88, of Falling Waters, WV, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, WV.
Born January 2, 1924, in Middletown MD, Charlie was the son of the late Charles D., Sr. and Minnie (Nash) Beachley. A 1941 graduate of Middletown High School, Charlie retired as the Assistant Comptroller of the Treasury from Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD, where he worked for 37 years.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly (Ohler) Beachley, brothers Albert, Paul and Emmett Beachley and first wife Ethel (Fawley) Toms. He is survived by two sons, Kevin Beachley and wife Tammy, of Smithsburg, MD, and Greg Beachley and wife, Dawn of Middletown, MD; two daughters, Kim Beachley of Germantown, MD, and Carol Bohn of Walkersville, MD; one sister, Doris Shaffer of Imler, PA; one half-brother, James Beachley of Thurmont, MD; one half-sister, Patricia Shank of Frederick, MD; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many good friends.
He was a member of the Martinsburg Moose, the Williamsport Redman and the Potomac Fish & Game Clubs. He was an avid horseshoe pitcher, winning many competitions, including his class in the 1980 MD State Championship.
A memorial service and reception will be held at the Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 12 S. Church St., Middletown, MD, on Saturday, June 30, 2012, beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Charlie would like for any donations to be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. www.ovarian.org.
