She grew up in Wheaton, MD, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Luis Guerrero, on July 30, 1970. Luis would remain a loving husband and devoted partner to the very end, holding her hand and guiding her through the passing to her eternal home.
In addition to Luis, she is survived by three loving daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne Lujan (Julio) of Raleigh, NC, Kimberly Jack (Danny) of Shenandoah Junction, WV, and Jennifer Dyson (Victor) of Lovettsville, VA; seven cherished grandchildren, Hannah, Nate, Joshua, Antonio, Acadia, Isabela, and Emily; loving brother, Brandon Michell (Lori) of Lexington, KY; beloved sisters-in-law, Gladys Morillo (Manolo), Nelly Guerrero, and Marianita Calles; devoted Aunt, Elsa Garzon; several special nieces and cousins; and best friend, Kristie Storey.
Cheryl was never afraid of hard work and was the type of person who got things done. Throughout her life, she worked in a variety of fields, from restaurants to real estate. She even owned her own cafe, The Calico Cat, for a time in downtown Shepherdstown. She was an expert at budgeting, and knew how to make a dollar stretch to cover the needs of a family of five.
Cheryl always put her family first. She helped out when needed and led by example, never forgetting to send a card for all of life’s milestones. She was an excellent cook and provided homemade meals for her family and friends; hosted and cooked for countless family gatherings; and used her gift to help others, often sending one of her amazing soups or meals when she heard someone was sick or in need. Her grandkids especially enjoyed Mommom’s homemade dishes.
Cheryl was a member of Covenant Church in Shepherdstown, WV and leaned on her Christian faith throughout life’s challenges, including her health obstacles resulting from an early diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (age 32) and much later diagnosis of esophageal cancer. Throughout it all, her faith remained constant.
Her earthly journey may be over, but her legacy will live on in all those who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home in Martinsburg, WV on Saturday, November 29 at 11 AM, with luncheon to follow. All of her friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, WV, 25430 (hospiceotp.org); or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C., 20090-1891 (nationalmssociety.org).
