

He is survived by his daughters: Kathy and Fred Hartnett of Hartly, DE, Carol Esswein of Martinsburg, WV, Debra and Bill Hughes of Milford, DE, LaDonna and Randy McDaniel of Moorefield, NC; stepsons: James Oldham of MD, Stephen and Kathy Oldham of Ellendale, DE, and Scott and Debbie Oldham of Hedgesville, WV; one half sister, Molly Bryant of Cumberland, MD. Daniel is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine JoAnn Hite of Martinsburg, WV; his father, Harry Hite of Hedgesville, WV; his mother, Leola Harrison; stepdaughter, Susan Hyatt of Hedgesville, WV; stepson, Stephen Jeffery Oldham of Martinsburg, WV; two brothers: John Hite of New Castle, DE, and Curtis Hite of Falling Waters, WV.
Daniel was known for being a friend to everyone he encountered. He loved telling his life stories and where he grew up (he was best known by the nickname Mr. Hedgesville). He had several hobbies including gardening, working in his workshop, and he was an avid train collector. He loved Nascar and football, but his true joy was Jeopardy for over forty years.
He dedicated twenty-four years to the Air Force where he received several metals. After retiring from the military, Daniel went to work at the Hedgesville Water District for five years, and four years at Hedgesville Elementary in the custodial department and never missed a day in his entire working career
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 10:00am until the start of the service at 12:00pm at Rosedale Funeral Home, 917 cemetery rd., Martinsburg, WV, 25404. Daniel will be laid to rest at Hedgesville cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle at 330 hospice Ln., Kearneysville, WV, 25430, or Wounded Warriors in his honor.
