Born in King William County with a natural gift for humor and intellect, Beth journeyed through life leaving a trail of joy and admiration in her wake. A proud alumna of the College of William and Mary, she pursued knowledge with an insatiable appetite, proving that brains and beauty could indeed go hand-in-hand. There she met her husband, Hugh, with whom she created a life, and family, filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support.
As a teacher for Hampton City Schools for more than 30 years, she captivated the minds of countless students, igniting a passion for learning within them. Her classroom was a stage where education came alive, and her lessons were like pearls of wisdom strung together with a thread of laughter.
Beth was a woman of profound love and devotion, evidenced by her role as a loving wife, dear sister, beloved mother to four remarkable daughters, and a doting grandmother to nine cherished grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, and her family was the center of her universe. She nurtured, guided, and inspired, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.
She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Predeceased by her husband, Hugh, and brother, Robert, Beth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Elizabeth (Thad), Katharine (Matt), Jennifer (Tim), and Clarissa (Griffin), nine beloved grandchildren – Ethan, Robyn, Evelyn, Lilly, Sydney, Tommy, Lorelei, Griffin and Lachlan – her sister Katie, and a loving community of friends and family who cherish the memory of this extraordinary woman.
Beth was the very best—a force of nature who brightened the lives of all she encountered. May her memory be a blessing and may her bright light continue to shine in our hearts. She is deeply missed and forever loved.
A celebration of Beth’s remarkable life will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon on June 16, 2023 in the Regency Room of the Williamsburg Inn. We invite all whose lives she touched to join us in paying tribute to a woman whose presence brightened our world.
