He was born on June 7, 1928 in Smithsburg, MD to the late Daniel Frederick Keefauver and Mary Frances Martin Keefauver. He is survived by his son, Kevin Lee Keefauver and wife Karen from Middletown, VA; daughter, Janice Faye Keefauver and husband Charles "Lynn" Sencindiver of Martinsburg WV; brother, Rev. Donald L. Keefauver; sister, Mary Frances Keefauver; grandchildren: Jared Kesner, Brenda Kelly, Jacob, Drew and Kristopher Keefauver; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Peggy Goode Keefauver; daughters: Deborah Jean Kelly and Sharon Mary "Kelly" Keefauver; brothers: William Martin "Jack" and Kenneth Keefauver; and sisters: Charlotte "Jane" Centofonti and Dorothy C. Hamilton.
Fred graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD in 1946. Afterwards, he joined the US Navy and served from June 1946-May 1949. He was a Class "A" Yeoman at Bainbridge, MD and attended Naval Justice School at Port Hueneme, CA. Fred was awarded the WWII Victory Medal.
Upon returning to Cumberland, Fred went to work for the B&O Railroad. His job took him to Keyser and eventually to Martinsburg, where he retired as a yardmaster with over 40 years of employment.
Fred loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting and trout fishing and in his later years took up golfing. He was on a bowling league at one time as well. He remained independent until just a few weeks prior to his death.
We would like to thank the kind, compassionate and caring staff of Berkeley Medical Center and the VA Medical Center. We truly appreciate his many friends and neighbors that have supported him over the years. We especially want to thank his ever supportive church family at Tuscarora Presbyterian Church.
A visitation will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home on Thursday, June 17 from 6pm-8pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday, June 18 at Tuscarora Presbyterian Church at 11 am with the interment to follow in Tuscarora Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Martinsburg VAMC, Voluntary Services, 510 Butler Ave. Martinsburg WV 25405 or Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, 8854 Tuscarora Pike Martinsburg, WV 25403 with check memo, in remembrance of Frederick L. Keefauver.
