

Hilda Teresa Light, 89, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, passed away on February 5, 2026. Born on August 28, 1936, in Fort Valley, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John and Edna Walters. Hilda was a 1954 graduate of Edinburg High School and devoted many years to ministry at Salem United Methodist Church, where she faithfully served until her retirement in 2018.
Hilda was an exceptionally loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a deep and unwavering love for her Lord, and all who knew her felt the warmth of her gentle and sweet spirit. A talented seamstress, she lovingly made her own wedding dress as well as clothing for her entire family—including outfits for all the children’s dolls. She was also an excellent cook who took great pride in preparing and sharing family meals.
Hilda is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Marshall Light; two daughters, Tamela Buracker (Paul Buracker) of Martinsburg and Teresa Light (Greg Williams) of Hedgesville; grandsons Donald Newcomb, Chad Ruppenthal, Phillip Ruppenthal, Matthew Ruppenthal, Gregory Williams, and Kyle Williams; Timothy Peterson, father of granddaughters Crystal Peterson and Rachel Peterson (Travis McDonald); great-grandchildren Phillip Ruppenthal, Ashton Ruppenthal, Jacob McDonald, Caleb McDonald, Cole Ruppenthal, Bella Ruppenthal, Bailey Williams, Cole Williams, Amelia Williams, and Amyha Williams; great-great-granddaughter Kehlani Ruppenthal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Martinsburg on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle in Hilda’s memory.
