
Born September 21, 1927 in Berkeley County, he was the son of the late James George and Reta Alger Tabler.
Bob was a faithful Christian and a member of Independent Bible Church in Martinsburg. He read God’s Word daily and enjoyed buying copies of the Bible and giving them away.
As a young man, he was employed at Frank W. Tabler Paint and Wallpaper and worked for his dad, Jim Tabler, as a painter and wallpaper hanger. He entered the United States Navy in 1944 and served during the Second World War. He was honorably discharged as a diesel mechanic and Fireman First Class. After the service he worked at Blair Limestone, Fairchild, and Corning Glass.
He is survived by one son, J. Robert Tabler II and wife, Peachie of Martinsbuurg; one daughter, Patti L. Pitzer and husband, Oscar of Rock Hill, South Carolina; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three sister-in-laws: Phyllis Tabler, Betty Dunham, and Peggy Lentz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Llewellyn “Lou” Grubb Tabler; brother, Fred W. Tabler; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Mullineaux.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 10:00am at Rosedale Cemetery. Guests are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 2776, Martinsburg, WV 25402, to continue his passion for the distribution of Bibles.
