

Judy was born in Grafton, WV and raised in South Charleston, WV. She received an undergraduate degree from Marshall University and a Master’s degree in English from Radford University. She worked as a secondary school English teacher in Detroit, Michigan. In 1966, she wed John T. Lucas and soon afterward they moved to Martinsburg and raised their two daughters there.
Judy’s true passions were dogs and dog rescue. She adopted many dogs and volunteered with rescue organizations for many years. She greatly valued her friendships with others in the dog rescue community and with her wonderful neighbors. Special thanks to the staff at Shenandoah Veterinary Hospital and Reach out Rescue and Resources. Additional special thanks to her wonderful friends, "Team Judy," who always brightened her day and brought a smile to her face.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Lucille Haddix; and by her husband John. Judy is survived by her two daughters, Suzanne and her husband Michael Crawley of Ashburn, VA, Molly and her husband Scott Murray of Seattle, WA; her two grandchildren Brooks and Aleta of Seattle, WA. Judy is also survived by her brother Eddie Haddix of St. Albans, WV and his children, her niece and nephew, Michele and Brad.
