Kathleen, Kathy to her family and friends, was born May 6, 1945, to Charles and Florence VanWassenhove (Schauff) in Sterling, Illinois.
Kathy and her twin sister, Christine, attended St Andrews Grade School in Rock Falls, Illinois, and later Newman Catholic High in Sterling, Illinois, where she met her future husband, Pat Reeser, to whom she would be married for over 55 years. She also attended Mount Saint Clare JC in Clinton, Iowa.
After getting married in 1968, she and Pat lived near Ottawa, IL, where they had five children: Jamie (Mick Herzog), Matthew (Beth Jackson), Thaddeus, Julia (Adam Ludwick), and Nathanael (Annette Hager).
She and her family moved to West Virginia in 1987 and settled in Falling Waters, where she operated a small housekeeping company with her sister for several years before her retirement.
A talented musician, Kathy shared her love of music with her family and others by cantering at Sunday Mass as a member of St Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Hedgesville.
In addition to raising her family, Kathy also found time to volunteer with the YMCA Leaders Club, Civitan Club of Martinsburg, and church functions. She could often be found in the stands cheering for her children and grandchildren at many of their respective athletic and music programs.
Kathy will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose sharp wit, kindness, and positivity brought joy to those around her.
She enjoyed the many gatherings and family reunions at her home along the Potomac River and would play “mom” to many of her children’s friends, who seemed to be a constant presence at her home.
Kathy is survived by her husband, five children, 12 grandchildren - Kyle, Jared, Brandon, and Mickie Marie Herzog, Timothy and Zoe Reeser, Hannah Reeser, Reese (Hunter Taylor), Ryan, and Thaddeus Ludwick, and Luke and Sarah Reeser, two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Owen Ludwick, and three sisters: Lucy Muffler of Serena, IL, Christine Joyce of Champagne, IL, and Rita VanWassenhove of Dixon, IL.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles; her mother, Florence; brothers Charles, Fredrick, Paul, Thomas, and sister, Mary Jean VanWassenhove; and granddaughter, Jordan Ludwick.
